lands £1.2m to grow its Stylist discovery app for ‘Uber’s children’

London 16 May 2016 Rock Pamper Scissors, the London-based hairdressers booking app, has closed a £1,200,000 investment round from venture capital groups 500 Startups and Seedcamp, alongside a group of angel investors including Tom Singh OBE, the founder of New Look. The business was founded by Just Eat plc’s former CMO Mat Braddy.

 

Rock Pamper Scissors is an iOS and Android app revealing the previously hidden talents of local stylists. Websites attempting to bring this market online before have relied on listings of businesses; Rock Pamper Scissors believes that it is not the business that cuts your hair, but a skilled stylist.

 

The app has integrated with leading salon software to provide consumers with real-time availability, providing instant on-demand access to individual stylist appointments available near them, right now. To help select the best stylist, clients can browse up-to-date personal portfolios for each stylist. The combination of live appointment data with a powerful visual photo layer has resulted in high levels of consumer love.

 

The new investment will be used to grow stylist and client usage in London, having successfully tested its approach in Leeds and Manchester in 2015. The money will also be used to strengthen the company's tech team and continue its development of apps and services looking to empower the stylist community.

“Whilst building Just Eat it really puzzled me that no-one had built an excellent app for haircut booking. We believe less than 1% of haircuts are currently booked online - that's insane. By focusing our brand and thinking on the millennial consumers, Uber’s children, who require instant access to services right now, we believe we have come up with a compelling approach which will finally solve this dilemma.
Our vision is to boost confidence. Confidence in booking a skilled stylist, confidence in online as the best channel to do this with, and personal confidence for the client by getting the best cut.”

The business is led by experienced entrepreneur Bertie Cordingley, founder of fillmybelly.com - a food delivery service bought by Just Eat in 2012, with co-founders Mat Braddy (ex-CMO Just Eat), Chris Osborne (ex-FT.com Product Lead),and Paula Fanning (ex-Head of Design for ITV.com).
